Spare Parts Puppet Theatre Performances on the Move

7 June, 2017

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s Artistic Director, Philip Mitchell, today announced that the company’s school holiday season of their award-winning production The Arrival will be performed at the Dolphin Theatre at the University of Western Australia from July 1 to 15.

The Spare Parts box office, administration and puppet training will remain at the Short Street premises. Ticket information and bookings will continue to be online at www.sppt.asn.au or 9335 5044. A second temporary box office will open at the Dolphin Theatre during the season.

Mr Mitchell said that The Arrival’s move to the Dolphin Theatre is relatively straightforward for the company,

“Spare Parts is no stranger to touring. We’re on the road for up to six months each year touring WA and around Australia and The Arrival has toured overseas as well,” he said. “In many ways, it will be business as usual at the Dolphin Theatre. It’s a great match being a similar size with perfect sight lines and a comfortable, cosy atmosphere. Audiences can expect the same quality Spare Parts experience as usual at the beautiful Dolphin and we will keep you posted about progress at our beloved Fremantle home theatre”.

Directed by Philip Mitchell, The Arrival is based on Shaun Tan’s acclaimed award-winning book and will be presented at the Dolphin Theatre from July 1 to 15, twice daily (except Sundays) for the school holidays. One of Spare Parts’ most acclaimed productions, The Arrival is a fusion of Tan’s beautiful and surreal illustrations with exquisite puppetry, digital animation, haunting music and fine acting.

Mitchell said that Shaun Tan’s The Arrival is a parable for our times with its emphasis on migration,

Set in a strange magical city, the story pairs the emotions of loss and hope that people experience when arriving in a new place. The Arrival is an emotionally moving show that will touch anyone who has bid farewell to a loved one and is a deeply rewarding experience for families to experience together.

The Spare Parts team is pushing full steam ahead with rehearsals and looking forward to sharing The Arrival at the company’s new sister venue, the Dolphin Theatre this July.
