Spare Parts Puppet Theatre launches new online workshop, making puppetry more accessible than ever

Australia’s flagship puppetry company, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre are pleased to launch a new online performance and workshop – the Bare-Hand Puppetry Workshop. Using little more than your own hands and familiar objects, this new puppetry workshop puts creativity within reach of every child and gives a whole new positive meaning to screen time.

The Bare-Hand Puppetry Workshop was created by puppetry artists Jessica Harlond-Kenny and Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s Associate Director Michael Barlow, as a creative response to the 2020 experience of spending a lot of time in our own homes and social distancing.

“We asked ourselves, could boredom be a good thing, and the results were inspiring. We quickly found that in quiet moments lay infinite creative possibilities. By turning the idea of boredom as something to be avoided on its head, the workshop inspires a fresh view of everyday life and unlimited self-expression”, said Michael and Jessica.

The online workshop combines a 20-minute performance film followed by a 60-minute hands-on, interactive workshop facilitated by a professional puppeteer designed to stimulate creative play, for children aged 6 and above. Delivered by video conference, schools and community groups will be able to book in sessions of the Bare-Hand Puppetry Workshop from Term 4, 2020. The general public won’t miss out and will get the chance to join two special preview sessions during the upcoming school holidays on September 30 and October 8, 2020. For parents looking at providing a morning of interactive and creative fun, this is the perfect school holiday activity to keep young minds engaged and inspired.

Participants require internet access and a device with a webcam and up to three enrolled participants can share a single device if in the same household. To find out more about the Bare-Hand Puppetry Workshop and to book tickets to their special school holiday sessions, you can call Spare Parts Puppet Theatre on (08) 9335 5044 or visit www.sppt.asn.au
