In the park opposite the Fremantle Railway Station is a building many have known since their childhood. Right at the gateway to Fremantle is an internationally acclaimed puppet company known throughout the world for its amazing puppet performances. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre has been offering world class puppetry works to Western Australians and their Fremantle community for four decades. It has become a precious and much-loved part of the cultural landscape of Fremantle, putting Fremantle on the world map as a place for outstanding arts and cultural experiences.
Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, like many arts organisations, relies on the generosity of their dedicated community to continue to provide high quality arts experiences in the community. The Member for Fremantle, Simone McGurk, is a loyal supporter of the theatre and has been donating to the ‘Adopt-a-Puppet’ program for over 7 years.
The company created the Adopt-a-Puppet program to raise funds for the theatre but also to provide exclusive behind the scenes experiences for their ‘Puppet Parents’, including meet and greets with their performers, priority seating and morning teas with their adopted puppet.
Like many other businesses, the theatre has recently had to close their doors and has postponed its theatre shows for the remaining part of 2020. Thanks to loyal supporters like Simone, the theatre is able to continue providing employment to all of its contracted artists and core staff members.

Although they aren’t currently able to host in theatre productions, Spare Parts has moved to an online offering and are releasing a new online workshop in the very near future. The doors will be re-opening in January 2021 and families and locals will be able to return to Western Australia’s State Puppetry company.
