Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is offering a limited number of professional and emerging artists the chance to take part in a remarkable week-long Object Theatre training intensive.
The masterclass will be led by international guest artist and iconic figure of Object Theatre Agnès Limbos.
For the past 25 years, Agnès Limbos has developed a form of intimate theatre using objects as tools of expression of a singular poetry. The actor-creator is at the centre; it is she who proposes her vision of the world. It is a theatre d’auteur.
Through imagination, curiosity, know-how on the one hand, and exercises, individual and collective improvisations on the other, Agnès Limbos leads participants to explore a unique form of theatre in which the object is manipulated in view of the audience and the actor is at the centre of the theatrical space.”

About the masterclass:
This workshop is for professional and emerging puppetry artists, actors, directors, theatre makers, storytellers and designers interested in the relationship and interplay between object and artist. Agnès Limbos will work with participants to explore the universe which arises when actor and object come together. This personal approach of the actor-creator is fuelled by emotions, with a contradictory understanding of the universe (enchantment/reality, tragic/funny), and the strength of instinct. You will use your imagination, your curiosity and your skill-set to explore this unique approach to theatre in which objects are not accessories but are the main elements of the play.
More about Agnès Limbos:
Agnès Limbos was born in Huy, Belgium, in 1952, and spent part of her childhood in Africa. She studied Political Sciences and Philosophy, yet preferred the streets of the world to the University. Agnès trained at École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris from 1977 to 1979 and in Mexico from 1980 to 1982, before founding the company Gare Centrale in Brussels in 1984. Through the company’s performances and collaborations, Agnès Limbos is committed to make quality popular theatre, creating living, entertaining and touching plays in search of an ever-evolving visual and body language. Her shows have been presented in many theatre festivals in more than 25 countries. She works as a writer, actor, director, teacher and she mentors young creators throughout their artistic process. From 2002 to 2008, in partnership with the Théâtre de la Balsamine, she organized a biennial international festival in Brussels.
What to bring:
- Pen and notebook
For warm up and manipulation exercises:
- Dark and neutral tracksuit pants.
For improvisations:
- Black suit or dress, formal shoes.
For the “object store” please bring a set of objects or materials you are moved by, that you would like to work with, and could include objects such as:
- daily objects, ancient or modern
- cuddle toys, dolls, trucks
- decoration objects, accessories
- natural materials; bark, sand, stones, earth, branches
- musical and sound-making objects
- illustrated magazines, images, pictures
- texts, newspapers
All the equipment in the “object store” will be shared and used by everyone for exercises and individual or collective work. Do not bring puppets or parts of an ongoing or finished show.

- a cover letter (max one page) outlining key reasons for wanting to participate in the program
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must be able to commit to attending the full intensive.
