Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is welcoming applications from professional artists for our Artist in Residence Program, 2022. The program is open to independent artists and groups working in puppetry and can relate to puppetry in a multitude of ways. The program embraces exploration in creative practice and experimentation with new performance languages.
Spare Parts supports fearless and imaginative puppetry works which encourage audiences to celebrate the world and their humanity. We are excited about works that captivate and stimulate an audience emotionally and offer opportunities for greater participation, expression and agency.
The program offers a two-week residency at Spare Parts Puppet Theatre in Fremantle and includes use of rehearsal/performance space, technical equipment, workshop/making facilities and support from company artistic and technical staff. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre will contribute financially to the costs of the project up to $2500.
Projects may be in their early stages of formation or may have already undergone some development and can be for any audience. Priority will be given to Western Australian artists and projects that show potential to be developed for presentation by Spare Parts in a future season will be given special consideration.
The residency program is accessed by a two-stage application process:
Stage One – an Expression of Interest briefly (no more than 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria:
- A artistic/vision statement about your project and how it explores puppetry
- What you will focus on during the residency and your envisaged outcomes
- Potential for future development and/or presentation
- Your evaluation processes
- A simple budget or statement outlining fees and/or materials required
Stage Two – shortlisted artists will discuss their project with the selection panel.
Dates:
Stage One EOI closing date: 28 January 2021
Stage Two pitches: Early February 2021
The timing of the residency is flexible and can be negotiated between the artist and Spare Parts.
