Dramaturgy of Light – an introduction to contemporary shadow puppetry
Clare Testoni will lead a weekend intensive course to introduce the techniques and concepts of contemporary shadow theatre. Covering basic shadow puppetry construction, paper cutting, body shadows, and three-dimensional shadows, the workshop will delve into the dramaturgy of light, shadow, and screens for live performance. Learn how to use different light sources and approaches to modern shadow puppetry as well as some traditional techniques from this cinematic art form.
Over two days you will acquire the skills and knowledge to incorporate shadow theatre into performance and learn some of the possibilities of using projection and light as set and character.
This workshop is suited to performing artists, visual artists, as well as teachers and educators.

Clare Testoni is currently the only Australian graduate from the International Shadow Puppetry Institute in Bamberg, Germany, and has worked with shadows for over a decade.
